Chris Rock on Drugs

Drugs are not the solution. They are a bandaid to cover up what is really not going right in the body.

Salt — the silent killer

Posted by roseanne on May 07 2008 | Health Alerts

Historically, salt was used as a food preservative and an embalming agent. It is well known that salt kills bacteria that eat food. Unfortunately, in the same way, salt destroys the body’s cells as well. Those who live in snowy regions know that salting the roads to melt the snow corrodes metals. The chloride in salt has an affinity for hydrogen ions, making corrosive, carcinogenic hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid is used in the stomach but, when HCL is made outside of the digestive system it can eat away at everything it touches.

As is the case with many poisons that enter into our bodies, salt does not kill us right away. But we become addicted to salt, which lowers our defenses so that we not only endure the detrimental addictive substance but we come to demand more and more of it. our intake of salt has doubled in the last 50 years.

To top it off, table salt contains ingredients other than sodium and chlorine—aluminum, for one. Two of the most common anti-caking agents used in salt production are sodium alumino-silicate and alumino-calcium silicate. Aluminum is a toxic metal that has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease and in any case has no place in a healthy diet.

So here it is, salt is a deadly poison and not something your body can use. Even small amounts do some damage to your cells and can be stored in the body, making the body more toxic each time you consume salt. Salt is not a food, even in small amounts. This also applies to everything else we consume, poisons affect our bodies and when we get more in then what we can get rid of, it will accumulate and do more damage.

Cool off the wine coolers

Posted by roseanne on Apr 16 2008 | Health Alerts

Ah, the fun summer feel of having a wine cooler to bring in the weekend…

Wine Coolers: Are they soft drinks, are they wine, are they juice? Well, actually, they are half alcohol and half juice and actually contain more sugar than almost any other drink out there!

Even when they claim they are made with “nature” fruit juice and contain “no artificial flavors”, don’t be fooled. Take a closer read of the label and you will see that they contain artificial colors, as well as sulfur dioxide, potassium sorbate, and sodium benzoate which are common allergy triggers.

And just for fun, they add lots of sugar (would you like to lower your immune system anyone?)

So maybe all that sneezing isn’t the ragweed!

Mmmm….Mmmmm….Maple Syrup time!

Posted by roseanne on Apr 01 2008 | Food of the Week

Maple syrup is an excellent source of the trace mineral manganese. It is also a good source of zinc. Here are some of the health benefits:

  • The trace mineral manganese is an essential cofactor in a number of enzymes important in energy production and antioxidant defenses.
  • The zinc supplied by maple syrup, in addition to acting as an antioxidant, has other functions that can decrease the progression of atherosclerosis.
  • Zinc and manganese are important allies in the immune system.
  • May help to support reproductive health and provides special benefits for men.

  • Recipe ideas:

  • Maple syrup, used in place of table sugar as a sweetener, gives tea and coffee a unique taste.
  • Pour some maple syrup on oatmeal topped with walnuts and raisins.
  • Add maple syrup and cinnamon to puréed cooked sweet potatoes.

  • For local Ontario shoppers, check out JC Nyman Farms maple syrup! The bottles come full all the way to the top… I just already dipped into this one — Yum!

    Food for Thought

Posted by roseanne on Mar 27 2008 | Food of the Week

This week’s food is simply eggs!

Lose weight, get energized, and protect your heart — just by eating eggs.

Eggs are truly a good way to start your day… have you ever noticed that you are satisfied all morning long after an egg breakfast? That’s due to the protein packed, 75 calorie meal in a shell.

A large chicken egg contains about 7 grams of protein and is digested more slowly providing a more long-lasting energy fuel.

A 2007 study at Louisiana State Univerisity suggested that eating eggs for breakfast enhanced weight loss by increasing feelings of being full longer.

So what about all that cholesterol? Well, turns out that studies now show that people eating more than 4 eggs per week had lower serum cholesterol than those who ate no eggs at all! So maybe it’s not so much the eggs as it is the usual side dishes added on to the egg breakfast — bacon, sausage, fried potatoes…

So get creative and as the ad says “Get crackin”.

Pregnancy is not a mental illness!

Posted by roseanne on Mar 21 2008 | Health Alerts

The MOTHERS ACT is a bill before the Senate, already passed by the House with only 3 “no” votes, which sets up a nation-wide screening and “education” campaign to encourage “antidepressant” drugs and other psychiatric drugs for pregnant and new moms. This isn’t medical science, this is political abuse marketing, for the greed of the few at the expense of the many.

Please go online and sign this petition. I fully support this campaign against a dangerous precedent in health.

Finger licking cruelty — no thanks KFC!

Posted by roseanne on Mar 20 2008 | Health Alerts

Colonel Sanders and his boys make it obscenely cruel.

    Watch more videos at KentuckyFriedCruelty.com.

KFC suppliers cram birds into huge waste-filled factories, breed and drug them to grow so large that they can’t even walk, and often break their wings and legs. At slaughter, the birds’ throats are slit and they are dropped into tanks of scalding-hot water—often while they are still conscious. It would be illegal for KFC to abuse dogs, cats, pigs, or cows in these ways. KFC’s own animal welfare advisors have asked the company to take steps to eliminate these abuses, but KFC refuses to do so. Many advisors have now resigned in frustration.

That’s it. No more KFC buckets of chicken for our family. Link to website Kentuckyfriedcruelty.com.

    Ginseng

This natural mental and physical stimulant helps to assimilate vitamins and minerals. It has been used around the world for centuries as a natural “upper” and aphrodisiac — yeah baby! But high doses of vitamin C (and foods rich in vitamin C) can inhibit its effectiveness.

Soooo, if you want to use it for those purposes, make sure you have a 3 hour window either before or after taking vitamin C so that your body can process them separately and get the most of both without inhibiting the normalizing effects of ginseng. Enjoy!
